We learn your vehicle’s history, understand your driving habits, and tailor maintenance recommendations to your specific needs. You’ll work with the same knowledgeable team members who remember you and your Porsche, creating a superior service experience.

Comprehensive Porsche Repair & Maintenance Services
Solo Motorsports provides complete Porsche service covering every maintenance requirement, repair need, and performance enhancement. Our experience spans all Porsche models, from vintage air-cooled classics to cutting-edge electric vehicles.
Porsche Engine Services & Performance
Your Porsche’s engine—whether it’s a legendary flat-six, turbocharged powerplant, or hybrid system—represents precision German engineering requiring expert care. Our comprehensive engine services include advanced engine diagnostics using Porsche-specific software, oil and filter changes using premium synthetic oils meeting Porsche specifications, spark plug replacement, fuel injector cleaning and service, timing chain inspection and replacement, engine mount replacement (especially critical for models with PADM active mounts), valve adjustment and service, air-oil separator (AOS) replacement, IMS bearing inspection and retrofit for affected 996 and 997 models, engine rebuilds and overhauls, and performance tuning and upgrades.
The infamous IMS (Intermediate Shaft) bearing failure affects certain Porsche 911 models produced between 1997 and 2008 (996 and early 997 generations). This bearing supports the intermediate shaft crucial for engine timing. When it fails, catastrophic engine damage results—potentially costing $15,000-$30,000 or more to repair. We offer IMS bearing inspections and preventative retrofits using upgraded bearings that eliminate this concern, providing peace of mind for owners of affected models.
Air-oil separator (AOS) failure is another common issue, particularly in 996, 997, and Boxster/Cayman models. A failing AOS causes excessive oil consumption, smoking on startup, and potential engine damage. We diagnose AOS problems accurately and replace failed units before they cause serious issues.
Porsche PDK & Transmission Service
Porsche’s revolutionary PDK (Porsche Doppelkupplung) dual-clutch transmission and traditional Tiptronic automatic transmissions represent advanced technology requiring specialized knowledge. Our transmission services include PDK transmission diagnostics and repair, transmission fluid and filter service, clutch replacement (manual transmissions), PDK clutch actuator service, transmission software updates, synchro inspection and repair (manual transmissions), and complete transmission overhauls when necessary.
PDK transmissions, while generally reliable, can develop issues including rough or delayed shifting, gear selection problems, transmission overheating, and actuator failures. Regular PDK fluid service every 40,000-60,000 miles significantly extends transmission life and prevents costly repairs. Many Dunwoody Porsche owners neglect this critical service, leading to premature transmission problems that could have been prevented.
Manual transmission issues, particularly the infamous “second gear pop-out” problem affecting certain 911 models, occur when dog rings or synchros wear prematurely. We diagnose transmission problems accurately and recommend whether repair or replacement is the most cost-effective solution.
Porsche Electrical System Diagnostics
Modern Porsches feature sophisticated electrical and electronic systems controlling everything from engine management to infotainment. Electrical issues can be challenging to diagnose without proper equipment and expertise. We provide comprehensive electrical system diagnostics and repair, battery testing and replacement, alternator and charging system service, check engine light diagnosis, ABS/PSM system diagnostics, PASM suspension electronics service, PCM (Porsche Communication Management) troubleshooting, sensor replacement and calibration, and wiring repair and restoration.
Check engine lights can indicate anything from minor sensor issues to serious engine problems. We decode fault codes accurately, identify root causes rather than symptoms, and implement lasting repairs that address underlying issues. Our Porsche-specific diagnostic tools provide far more detailed information than generic OBD-II scanners used by general repair shops.
Battery issues are surprisingly common in Porsche vehicles, particularly those driven infrequently or used for short trips around Dunwoody. Porsche’s sophisticated electronics draw power even when parked, and weak batteries can cause numerous electrical gremlins throughout the vehicle. We test battery health, diagnose charging system problems, and recommend high-performance battery upgrades when appropriate.
Porsche Brake System Service
Your Porsche’s braking system—whether equipped with standard steel rotors or high-performance carbon-ceramic brakes—requires expert service to maintain stopping power and safety. We provide brake pad and rotor inspection and replacement, brake fluid flush and replacement, carbon-ceramic brake service and maintenance, brake caliper service and rebuilds, brake line inspection and replacement, ABS/PSM module diagnostics, and parking brake service.
Porsche brake systems endure significant stress, especially during spirited driving or track use. Performance brake pads wear faster than conventional pads, and rotors require replacement when they reach minimum thickness specifications. Carbon-ceramic brakes, found on many high-performance models, require specialized knowledge—improper service can damage expensive components costing thousands to replace.
Brake fluid degrades over time, absorbing moisture that lowers its boiling point and can cause brake fade during aggressive driving. Porsche recommends brake fluid replacement every two years. This often-neglected service is critical for maintaining braking performance and preventing expensive caliper and ABS module corrosion.
Porsche Suspension & Steering Service
Porsche’s world-renowned handling comes from precisely engineered suspension systems that require proper maintenance. We service all suspension types including standard suspension, PASM (Porsche Active Suspension Management), PDCC (Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control), and air suspension systems (primarily Cayenne). Our suspension services include shock and strut inspection and replacement, control arm and bushing replacement, sway bar and end link service, wheel alignment and corner balancing, PASM electronic suspension diagnostics, air suspension compressor and component repair, steering rack inspection and service, and tie rod and ball joint replacement.
Suspension component wear is inevitable, particularly on Porsche vehicles driven enthusiastically on Dunwoody’s varied road surfaces. Worn suspension components compromise handling, create clunking noises, and cause uneven tire wear. Regular suspension inspections identify problems early, preventing safety concerns and maintaining that precise Porsche handling character.
Air suspension systems, primarily used on Cayenne models, provide excellent ride quality but can develop leaks, compressor failures, or control module issues. We diagnose air suspension problems accurately and repair or replace failed components using quality parts that restore proper function.
Porsche Cooling System Service
Proper engine cooling is critical for performance and longevity, especially in Porsche’s powerful engines generating significant heat. Our cooling system services include coolant flush and replacement using Porsche-specified coolant, radiator repair and replacement, water pump service, thermostat replacement, coolant hose and pipe replacement (addressing common plastic pipe failures), expansion tank replacement, and cooling fan diagnostics and repair.
Coolant leaks are unfortunately common in several Porsche models, particularly Cayenne and Panamera. Plastic coolant pipes located in high-temperature areas crack over time, causing leaks that may not be immediately visible. These pipes often leak into the engine valley, where coolant puddles between cylinder banks without dripping onto the ground. The first sign may be low coolant warnings or overheating. We proactively inspect cooling systems during routine maintenance and recommend upgrading vulnerable plastic components to more durable aluminum or reinforced parts.
Water pump failures can occur without warning, potentially causing severe overheating and engine damage. We recommend water pump replacement during major services or based on age and mileage to prevent unexpected failures.
Porsche Exhaust System Service
Your Porsche’s exhaust system serves multiple functions—controlling emissions, reducing noise, and contributing to that distinctive Porsche sound. We provide complete exhaust system service including exhaust manifold inspection and replacement, catalytic converter testing and replacement, muffler and resonator service, exhaust leak repair, O2 sensor replacement, exhaust mounting and hanger repair, and performance exhaust system installation.
Exhaust leaks are common, particularly at manifold gaskets and mounting points. Leaks create unwanted noise, reduce performance, and can cause check engine lights. We identify leak sources accurately and implement proper repairs using quality gaskets and components.
Catalytic converter failures, while less common, can occur due to age or engine problems that contaminate the catalyst. Failed converters cause check engine lights, power loss, and failed emissions tests. We diagnose converter failures accurately, identify underlying causes to prevent recurrence, and replace converters with OEM or high-quality aftermarket units.
Porsche Preventative Maintenance Programs
Regular maintenance is the foundation of Porsche ownership, preventing expensive repairs while preserving performance and value. Our comprehensive maintenance services follow Porsche factory schedules including annual oil service, intermediate service (every 20,000 miles or 2 years), major service (every 40,000 miles or 4 years), brake fluid service (every 2 years), PDK transmission fluid service (every 40,000-60,000 miles), spark plug replacement, air and cabin filter replacement, multi-point vehicle inspection, and pre-purchase inspections.
We create personalized maintenance plans tailored to your driving habits, vehicle age, and usage. This proactive approach helps you budget for upcoming services and ensures nothing falls through the cracks. Our detailed service records document all work performed, supporting your Porsche’s resale value.
Common Porsche Problems We Solve Daily
Through twenty years serving Dunwoody’s Porsche community, we’ve diagnosed and repaired every common issue affecting these sophisticated vehicles:
IMS Bearing Failure (996/997 Models) – The notorious intermediate shaft bearing failure affects 1997-2008 911 models and corresponding Boxster/Cayman variants. We offer preventative IMS bearing retrofits using upgraded bearings that eliminate this catastrophic failure risk, providing peace of mind worth far more than the retrofit cost.
Air-Oil Separator (AOS) Failures – AOS units separate oil from crankcase vapors. When they fail, excessive oil consumption, smoking, and engine damage result. Common symptoms include blue smoke on startup, high oil consumption, and rough idling. We replace failed AOS units before they cause serious problems.
PDK Transmission Issues – While generally reliable, PDK transmissions can develop actuator problems, rough shifting, or fluid leak issues. Regular PDK fluid service prevents many problems, and we repair transmissions rather than replacing them when possible, saving thousands in repair costs.
Coolant Pipe Leaks – Plastic coolant pipes in Cayenne and Panamera models crack over time, causing difficult-to-detect leaks. We proactively replace vulnerable plastic pipes with upgraded metal alternatives during major services, preventing future failures.
Check Engine Lights – Porsche check engine lights can indicate hundreds of possible issues. Our Porsche-specific diagnostic equipment provides detailed fault information, allowing accurate diagnosis. Common causes include oxygen sensor failures, catalytic converter issues, evaporative emissions problems, and various sensor faults.
Oil Leaks – Older Porsches frequently develop oil leaks from valve covers, rear main seals, intermediate shaft seals, or other gaskets. While minor leaks may not cause immediate problems, addressing them prevents oil consumption, mess, and potential fire hazards. We identify leak sources accurately and recommend repairs based on severity.
Suspension Component Wear – Control arm bushings, ball joints, and shock absorbers wear over time, particularly on enthusiastically driven Porsches. Symptoms include clunking noises, poor handling, and uneven tire wear. Regular inspections catch problems early before they compromise safety or damage other components.
Battery and Electrical Issues – Weak batteries cause numerous electrical problems in modern Porsches, from warning lights to module malfunctions. We test charging systems comprehensively and recommend high-quality battery upgrades that better handle Porsche’s electrical demands.
Brake System Wear – Performance brake pads wear quickly, especially during spirited driving. We monitor brake pad thickness during services and recommend replacement before pads damage rotors, preventing expensive rotor replacement.

Why Choose Independent Service Over Porsche Dealerships?
Dunwoody Porsche owners increasingly choose Solo Motorsports over dealership service for compelling reasons:
Substantial Cost Savings – Independent service typically costs 30-40% less than dealership pricing for identical work. These savings add up significantly over ownership. A $1,200 dealership service might cost $750-$850 at our facility using the same quality parts and procedures. Over years of ownership, these savings can total tens of thousands of dollars.
Personalized, Relationship-Based Service – Dealerships process high volumes of vehicles, often with different service advisors each visit. At Solo Motorsports, we build lasting relationships. We know your vehicle’s history, your driving habits, and your concerns, creating a superior experience impossible at volume-focused dealerships.
No Pressure for Unnecessary Services – Dealerships often push unnecessary services to meet quotas and maximize revenue per customer. We recommend only what your Porsche genuinely needs based on factory schedules, actual vehicle condition, and your driving patterns. Our compensation structure rewards quality work, not upselling unnecessary services.
More Flexible Scheduling and Faster Service – Dealerships often book weeks in advance and may keep your Porsche longer than necessary. We offer more flexible appointment scheduling and efficient service that respects your time without rushing or compromising quality.
Comparable or Superior Expertise – Our Porsche-specialized technicians possess knowledge and experience matching or exceeding dealership technicians. Many dealership techs work across multiple brands; our exclusive focus on European performance vehicles means deeper, more specialized Porsche knowledge.
Direct Communication with Technicians – At Solo Motorsports, you can speak directly with the technician servicing your Porsche. This direct communication ensures accurate information exchange and addresses concerns immediately—something rarely possible at large dealerships with rigid service advisor structures.

Frequently Asked Questions About Porsche Repair in Dunwoody, GA
How much does Porsche maintenance and repair cost compared to dealerships?
No—federal law (the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act) protects your right to service your vehicle at qualified independent facilities without voiding manufacturer warranties. Porsche cannot void your warranty simply because you chose independent service, provided work is performed correctly using appropriate parts and following proper procedures. At Solo Motorsports, we adhere to Porsche factory service schedules, use OEM or OEM-equivalent parts, and document all services meticulously. For newer Porsches under manufacturer warranty, we can perform all routine maintenance while you take warranty-covered repairs to the dealership if needed. For post-warranty Porsches—which represents the majority of our clientele—there’s absolutely no disadvantage to choosing independent service. Many Porsche owners actually prefer our personalized attention and expertise once their warranty expires. We’re happy to discuss warranty considerations for your specific vehicle and answer any concerns.
Will using an independent shop void my Porsche warranty?

What's the IMS bearing issue, and should I worry about it?
The IMS (Intermediate Shaft) bearing issue affects certain Porsche 911 models produced between 1997 and 2008 (996 generation and early 997 generation), plus corresponding Boxster and Cayman models. The IMS bearing supports the intermediate shaft, which is crucial for engine timing. When this bearing fails—which happens in a small percentage of affected vehicles—it causes catastrophic engine failure potentially costing $15,000-$30,000 or more to repair. While failure rates are relatively low (estimates range from 1-8% depending on the source), the consequences are severe enough that many owners choose preventative action. We offer IMS bearing inspections and preventative retrofits using upgraded bearings that eliminate this concern entirely. The retrofit involves removing the transmission, accessing the bearing, and installing an improved unit. While not inexpensive (typically $2,000-$3,500 depending on your model), this preventative service provides complete peace of mind and is far less expensive than engine replacement after bearing failure. If you own an affected model, we strongly recommend discussing this with us.
How often does my Porsche need service, and what's included?
Porsche service intervals vary by model, but most modern Porsches require service annually or every 10,000 miles, whichever comes first. Annual oil service typically includes premium synthetic oil and filter change, multi-point vehicle inspection, fluid level checks and top-offs, tire pressure adjustment, computer diagnostic scan, and service indicator reset. Intermediate service (every 20,000 miles or 2 years) includes everything in annual service plus cabin air filter replacement, additional inspections, and brake fluid testing. Major service (every 40,000 miles or 4 years) includes everything above plus spark plug replacement, air filter replacement, brake fluid replacement, comprehensive brake inspection, and detailed multi-point inspection. Additionally, PDK transmission fluid should be serviced every 40,000-60,000 miles (often overlooked but critical), brake fluid every 2 years regardless of mileage, and coolant every 4-6 years. We create personalized maintenance schedules based on your specific Porsche model, age, mileage, and driving habits, ensuring you never miss critical services while avoiding unnecessary work.
What should I look for when choosing a Porsche repair shop in Dunwoody?
Selecting the right Porsche service provider is crucial for protecting your investment. Look for these essential qualities: Porsche-Specific Expertise—Choose a shop with proven Porsche specialization, not general mechanics who occasionally work on German cars. Ask about technician certifications and specific Porsche training. Proper Diagnostic Equipment—Porsche service requires specialized diagnostic tools and factory software. Verify the shop maintains Porsche-specific equipment rather than generic tools. Quality Parts Philosophy—Ensure they use genuine Porsche OEM parts or premium OEM-equivalent components, never cheap aftermarket parts that compromise performance or reliability. Transparent Communication—The shop should explain findings clearly, provide detailed written estimates, and communicate throughout the service process without pressure or confusion. Established Reputation—Check online reviews, ask for references from other Porsche owners, and verify their standing in the community. Longevity matters—shops established for decades have proven their value. Fair, Transparent Pricing—Compare pricing between shops, but remember unusually low prices may indicate corner-cutting. Quality Porsche service costs less than dealerships but isn’t cheap. Facility Tour Welcome—Reputable shops welcome facility tours where you can see their equipment, meet technicians, and discuss your Porsche’s needs before committing. At Solo Motorsports, we enthusiastically welcome these visits and encourage questions.
Can you diagnose check engine lights and other warning lights?
Absolutely—diagnostic expertise is one of our core strengths. Porsche check engine lights and warning messages can indicate hundreds of possible issues, from minor sensor faults to serious mechanical problems. Generic code readers available at auto parts stores provide only basic fault codes without detailed information needed for accurate diagnosis. We use professional Porsche-specific diagnostic equipment that interfaces directly with your vehicle’s computers, providing comprehensive fault data, live sensor readings, adaptation values, and detailed system information impossible to obtain with generic scanners. This enables accurate diagnosis identifying root causes rather than symptoms. Common check engine light causes include oxygen sensor failures, catalytic converter efficiency issues, evaporative emissions system leaks, mass airflow sensor problems, and various sensor faults. Beyond check engine lights, we diagnose ABS warnings, airbag lights, PSM (stability control) warnings, PASM suspension messages, battery management warnings, and other dash lights. Our diagnostic process includes retrieving all fault codes, analyzing live data during test drives if needed, researching technical service bulletins, and providing clear explanations of findings with repair recommendations and cost estimates. We never charge for diagnostics then add that cost to repairs—diagnostic fees are waived when you proceed with recommended repairs at our facility.
Do you offer any warranties or guarantees on repairs?
Yes, Solo Motorsports stands firmly behind our workmanship with comprehensive warranties on all repairs and services. We typically provide a 12-month/12,000-mile warranty on parts and labor for most repairs, giving you confidence and peace of mind. Genuine Porsche OEM parts carry manufacturer warranties which we pass through to you completely. For major services like engine or transmission work, we document everything thoroughly and guarantee our workmanship quality. If you experience any issues related to services we performed within the warranty period, we’ll make it right promptly at no additional charge to you. This warranty commitment reflects our confidence in our technicians’ expertise, the quality parts we source, and our commitment to complete customer satisfaction. We also maintain detailed digital service records for every Porsche we service, providing documentation that supports your vehicle’s value and history when it’s time to sell or trade. Unlike some shops that disappear or refuse to honor commitments, Solo Motorsports has served the Dunwoody community for over 20 years—we’ll be here to support you long after your service is complete. Ask us about specific warranty coverage for your planned services, and we’ll explain everything clearly.
